TOPIC: Why Patience?
Text: James 1:4, Job 2:9-10.
James 1:4
“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Job 2:9-10
9. “Then said his wife unto him, Doest thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die.”
10. “But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.”
Patience is one of the greatest virtues in life. One who lacks patience, literally lacks all things. With patience, lots are achieved.
Even God has said to us to allow patience to have it's perfect work in us. The inability of many to exercise proper patience today is what has led to their doom. The Lord wants us to exercise patience always.
We need patience, so we won't lose out on the good things the Lord has in store for us.
No one knew what God had in store for Job, God allowed Satan for him and not against him, the agony he was experiencing was worse than death that his wife could not but wish him dead. She even went as far as telling Job to curse God and die. But Job was patient, he didn't listen to his wife and in the end he enjoyed the reward for being patient.
The wicked ones do not want good for one, they will constantly look for preys who will fall into their traps. And one of their devices is 'lack of patience'. The moment one loses one's patience and takes a wrong step or make a wrong decision, one automatically becomes their victim. The Bible says in 1Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
The wicked ones are not resting, they are always on the lookout for whom they may devour, with *patience* which their victims lack is what they use to lie in wait for them. They will cause anger to come to one who lacks patience and will cause him/her to foolishly act in response to the anger. A lack of good things for their victims which was supposed to be for a short period of time will be turned to an “everlasting lacking" just because a lack of patience has led them to do things they shouldn't do.
So many things in life we will achieve through patience, so many troubles, tribulations, and temptations we will overcome if we can remain patient.
Prayer: Father Lord, I have known that through patience, lots are achieved, the will of the wicked ones refuses to come to fulfillment over one because patience prevents one from doing what qualifies one to be their victim. I have learnt that it was through patience that Job overcame trails, I have also been reminded of your instruction which was to allow patience to have it's perfect work in me. My ability is not enough to completely exercise true patience, Lord I pray that you bestow unto me, the GRACE to be patient has you desire. Amen.
