Text: Eccl 7:14-17
Ecc 7:17 Do not be over wicked, and do not be a fool--why die before your time?
Suicide is an intentionally self afflicted death that is common among men and youth.
Tomisin was in a huge debt that seems inescapable, he receives threats from different ends including the wrath of loan sharks. He had no source to get the money from, not even his family or friends. No one was ready to help, everyone keeps tossing him away, worse than a fly.
Not just that, Tomisin's immediate family (wife and children) needs money for their upkeep and important needs, which made them accrue in more debt. Now everyone keeps stigmatizing them and calling them names, the average Nigerian lifestyle they do live then now seemed like a fantasy, and all their dreams and hope seemed crumbled. Now everything going on in Tomisin's head seems to be suicidal.
On a fateful day Tomisin went to seek a wealthy church member's help who he calls church daddy, whose last hope is on, he feels he is rich enough to solve his problems. To his expectation he was disappointed as usual, but he got a significant message in his statement which seemed to be like a jest, what he got was a valuable Bible verse to read on Eccl 7:
14-17.
Ecc 7:14 When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future.
Ecc 7:15 In this meaningless life of mine I have seen both of these: a righteous man perishing in his righteousness, and a wicked man living long in his wickedness.
Ecc 7:16 Do not be overrighteous, neither be overwise--why destroy yourself?
Ecc 7:17 Do not be overwicked, and do not be a fool--why die before your time?
When he got home he pondered on the verse and read it over again, In that instance, suicidal thoughts flew out of his thinking, and he went to the place of prayer and asked like a true son.
A few days later he realized the channel he kept his life savings to was not a scam but a way to teach him a good lesson, his money was doubled, and he reinvested it in doing something ideal and started an NGO to save lives and keep people's faith abreast.
This might not be your case, but surely God has a lot in stock for you, verse 14 states:
When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future.
Some problems might not be money or love, some might be being involved in a disgraceful act.
There is a story of a little girl while being ask the difference between to be remorse and to repent she said: "Peter repented he asks for forgiveness, Judas was remorseful he killed himself".
Don't end your beautiful story by committing suicide.
While some visit Ritualists and other wrong sources to seek wealth while faced with challenges, God is still God.
Prayer: Lord, help me to keep my faith in you even in hard times and help me overcome difficulties without stress
